This is a running dictation activity for pre-intermediate or upper intermediate EFL/ESL learners. This activity uses English for Specific Purposes (ESP) specifically in the area of global awareness. This is a great four skills activity that incorporates reading comprehension with a task activity that has kinesthetic movement and interpersonal communication at the core. In this activity there are two different pairs. Pairs who read and write only the Hands sentences and pairs who read and write only the Flower sentences. When finished a team of four students will have 16 total sentences. After collecting all the sentences students should read through the set and determine what all the questions are describing. In the discussion students identify children with needs who have poverty issues. As a follow up to this activity I have students brainstorm in groups how they could help children in their country who are suffering from poverty. Particularly children at orphanages or homeless children. The class creates an action plan for how to help children and then as a group we work to put the plan into action. This has lead to clothing, food, and health care drives to raise materials to donate to local orphanages.
