Video Writing Prompts

These worksheets use short videos to spark imagination and help students practice storytelling in English. Each worksheet guides students through three steps:

  1. Watch, Imagine – View the video and think about the story, characters, and events.
  2. Pause – Pause at the recommended time stamp for students to brainstorm the story.
  3. Organize – Use the graphic organizer to plan ideas for what will happen next.
  4. Write – Create the story using the organizer and your ideas. Share in pairs before finishing.
  5. Check – Watch the end of the video and see whose story was the most similar or different to the ending.

How to Use in Class

    High school and older learners will enjoy these activities. They can also be adapted for adults in the right context.

  • Integrated Skills Practice
    Students build listening and viewing skills, then practice speaking, writing, and reading as they share their stories.

  • Pair and Group Work
    Learners can work together to predict endings, write alternative versions, and exchange stories for feedback.

  • Speaking Extensions
    After writing, students can present their stories, act them out, or turn them into short dialogues.
