Creative Thinking: Idea Box Holidays and Events

By saradavila

This is a series of classroom activities designed to improve communication while developing creative thinking.

Creative thinking techniques encourage students to think in new and interesting ways to solve problems and address a variety of situations. These creative thinking techniques can help your learners find new ways in which to use or review language.

The approach used in this lesson is called the Idea Box. The Idea Box asks the thinker to begin with a single idea and then to branch out from that idea by adding more and more ideas in a list. The worksheet provides areas for Ss to brainstorm a variety of ideas until enough information has been generated for use in speaking activities.

I’ve included an overview of how to use Idea Box in the classroom as well as a worksheet. While these are designed for EFL/ESL learners these worksheets would work well in any classroom where the teacher wants to provide more structure for discussion.

This worksheet will help the learners talk about holidays and events in more detail, including who they celebrate with, why the celebrate and the feelings they have about celebrations.
