These activities are designed to help EFL/ESL learners in the classroom set language learning goals. This activity is designed for upper intermediate and advanced EFL students. I consider this material part of my foundation collection, having a clear learning goal is an important foundation stone for any classroom with more advanced learners. This is a brainstorming activity. As a group the students brainstorm reasons for learning, both personal and for the group. Students create a list of ways in which the learning objective can be reached through study and write this in the other side of the chart. In a regular school year I would use this activity at the beginning of a semester and review at the end of the semester to see if students are on track with learning. At the beginning of a new semester I would ask students to refer back to this chart and update the chart to reflect new learning goals.
