Pyramids in Egypt Running Dictation

By saradavila

This is a running dictation activity for pre-intermediate or upper intermediate EFL/ESL learners. This activity uses English for Specific Purposes (ESP) specifically in social studies content related to the great pyramids in Egypt. This is a great four skills activity that incorporates reading comprehension with a task activity that has kinesthetic movement and interpersonal communication at the core. After collecting all the sentences students should read through the sentences to learn about the great pyramids in Egypt. I follow this activity with comprehension check questions on the board. Additionally teachers can use this activity as a starting place for a short five paragraph essay on the history of Egypt. The pyramids are only one part of the interesting and unique history of Egypt. I present students with several additional topics including: Mummies The Nile River Hieroglyphs Eygptian Gods and Goddesses Farming Pharaohs and Queens Shipping and Boats Crocodiles I have students choose a subject and complete some research to write an essay paper.
