Descriptive Hints of Animals Running Dictation

By saradavila

This is a running dictation activity for high beginner, pre-intermediate EFL/ESL learners. This is a great four skills activity that incorporates reading comprehension with a task activity that has kinesthetic movement and interpersonal communication at the core. Cut the sentences out as strips and place on the wall. Pair up students and have students go to the wall read the sentence and return to their sitting partner. The sitting partner listens and writes the sentence as the running partner speaks. The running partner may need to run back to the sentence several times. In this activity there are two different pairs. Pairs who read and write only the Hands sentences and pairs who read and write only the Flower sentences. When finished a team of four students will have 16 total sentences. This running dictation focuses on using descriptive adjectives as hints. Once all the hints are collected students name the animals that are described using the Write a Description card. Students do not receive the description card until after all the sentences are collected.
